Sturgeon Refinery flare management
Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. has been supporting the Sturgeon Refinery located in Redwater with ongoing flaring assessments since 2013. These assessments vary in scope and context, with the largest assessment involving the preparation of a flare management plan for the hot commissioning and start-up of the Sturgeon Refinery.
The modelling included assessments of 10 different non-routine scenarios, with many of the scenarios involving the flaring of acid gas with low energy content. Some of the scenarios involved the routing of separate acid gas streams to multiple flares operating concurrently. The study also involved an assessment of air quality as a result of flame “blow-out”, which may occur with excessively-high flare tip exit velocity.
